One of the most important monasteries here is the ‘gompa’ at Sera which serves as the Mahayana Buddhist University, one of India’s foremost learning centres for Tibetan monks and lamas. Another of region’s attraction is the Golden Temple of Namdroling, a beautifully painted monastery in peaceful grounds.
