Dharamsala is a city in the north of Himachal Pradesh surrounded by picturesque views of the Himalayas. It is one of the hill stations where history, spirituality, and culture come together, giving you a retreat for both your mind and soul. This hill station, established by the British in the mid-19th century, is today the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government-in-Exile. Located on the lower spurs of the Dhauladhar Range, the town consists of two sections – lower town with the main bus stand and bazaar, and the upper town, known as McLeodganj. McLeod Ganj, also referred to as Upper Dharamsala, is called ‘Little Lhasa’ because of the large population of Tibetans. McLeod Ganj serves as the residence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and is a great place to understand Tibetan culture and history.
