North of Alleppey, is the small fishing village of Mararikulam, a quiet, secluded beach, on whose fringes a string of small seaside resort hotels has sprung up, nested under the palm trees behind and endless golden-sand beach strewn with fishing boats. This fishing village has retained an ‘undiscovered’ charm with a laid back way of life that has changed little in the last dozen decades, and where traditional fishing is still the main source of income.
Facing west and offering spectacular sunsets, the beach is pretty, with wide stretch of sand and the warm Arabian Sea waters is an ideal playground for wave seeking surfers and swimmers. While swaying in a hammock between the coconut trees watching fisherman land their daily haul is perhaps the finest way to spend time here.
