Adjoining the Thattekad Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Periyar River Lodge is an ideal getaway for nature lovers, bird watchers or anyone who needs a break from the humdrum of urban life.Right on the riverfront in an exclusive rubber plantation, this serene retreat built largely of teakwood has two spacious bedrooms. Sunlit verandahs offer unhindered views of the river and forests on the opposite bank.Wake up to chirping birds or go kayaking to spot those occasional elephants across the river. You could also try your hand at bamboo rafting or take a ride on country boats.The Periyar River Lodge is aesthetically built, with the 75-year-old basic structure in teakwood still in immaculate condition, and an added extension to this basic wooden structure to expand it into a traditional ‘nalukettu’. The Lodge contains 2 bedrooms, each of which is configured with either a double bed or two single beds, with attached en suite bathroom with all modern amenities. The bedrooms are completely made of wood with large wooden windows overlooking the river. A spacious lounge separates the two bedrooms, with the open central courtyard beside it. There is a clear view of the Periyar River in front of the Lodge from this lounge.
